Pegasus Centralized Distribution System is a logistics and supply chain model in which all products, materials, or resources are stored and distributed from a single central location or hub. This central facility is responsible for receiving goods from suppliers and then shipping them to various destinations such as retail stores, branch offices, or end customers. It contrasts with decentralized systems, where multiple distribution centers are spread out across different regions.
The centralized model offers several advantages. First, it allows for better inventory control and reduced duplication of stock, as everything is managed in one location. This leads to lower storage and operating costs. Additionally, centralized systems can improve consistency in service and quality, as processes are standardized and easier to monitor. Procurement and bulk purchasing can also be more efficient and cost-effective.
However, there are some drawbacks. A major risk is that if the central facility experiences disruption—due to natural disasters, strikes, or system failures—it can halt the entire distribution process. Delivery times may also be longer for locations farther from the central hub, potentially increasing transportation costs and reducing responsiveness.
